If you want to make money by answering surveys online, Opinion Outpost is an option that will most likely turn up in your search.
But how much money can you make, and how does it compare to its competitors? In this Opinion Outpost review, I'll outline what I found after a dozen hours of research including information on the rewards options that the company offers and the types of surveys available.
If you're ready to give side hustles a try, online surveys are a simple way to get started.
Online surveys are questionnaires targeted to a specific audience. They're a way for companies to gather data on their target market. But to get the data, they need people to complete the surveys. That's where you come in.
Companies are willing to pay you for your opinions.
Completing online surveys won't earn you six figures, but it's a way to make some extra pocket or lunch money. The amount you make depends on the number of surveys you qualify for and complete. The more you hustle, the more you'll earn.
To make money using Opinion Outpost and other online survey companies, you'll need to be consistent and have a strategy to earn cash completing surveys.
A good plan would be to focus on taking higher-earning surveys emailed to you by Opinion Outpost.
Also, signing up with more than one survey company will increase the amount of money you make.
What is Opinion Outpost?
Opinion Outpost is a survey platform that allows you to take online surveys, anytime, anywhere, and get paid for your input. Companies need your opinions to improve and create new products for their customers. Opinion Outpost is a hub for companies to connect with you and gather your feedback.
Surveys cover a wide range of topics--anything from the shampoo you use to your opinion on sports. When you complete surveys, you're rewarded with points that you can exchange for cash, gift cards, or if you prefer, you can donate your points to the American Red Cross.
Opinion Outpost is a survey company that allows its users to make money online.
Incorporated in 2009, Opinion Outpost is a subsidiary of Dynata.
The parent company originated in the 1980s as Survey Sampling. Dynata also owns and operates brands such as Vindale Research, OneOpinion and QuickThoughts.
Unlike the sites of many of its competitors, Opinion Outpost is streamlined; you earn money by completing surveys and not much else.
How Opinion Outpost Works?
I signed up for my free Opinion Outpost account by providing my name and email address.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
After I signed up, I had to take the following steps before I could start to make money.
1. Confirm Email Address
I received a five-point activation bonus for doing this. Five points are the equivalent of $5.
2. Complete Profile
Opinion Outpost and multiple reviewers of the site stress being thorough about answering the profile questions (demographics and interests).
There are a lot of these questions. They're organized by topic. You don't have to answer all of them. But I earned another five points for completing a certain percentage of this "welcome survey."
The company claims that filling out these details helps it match you with the right surveys (and reduces your fail rate).
3. Answer Multiple-Choice Survey Precursor Questions
The Opinion Outpost website is much more streamlined than its competitors.
The main menu includes four options: Surveys, Rewards, Badges and Explore.
If you click on one of the surveys, Opinion Outpost will first ask you a series of multiple-choice questions. This is a continuation of Step 2 ("Complete My Profile") and is ostensibly a part of matching you with surveys that fit well. However, I noticed that some of these questions get repetitive.
You must power through these multiple-choice questions to get to the part of each survey that will actually earn you money.
4. Fill Out Surveys
Opinion Outpost tells you how much money you'll make (in points) if you complete each survey.
It also estimates how much time it will take to complete each survey. However, I found that the company sometimes underestimated that.
It works like every other survey website work, no complications there. If you are their registered member, you are presented with tons of surveys to provide your feedback. All you need is to provide your true details to qualify for some of the surveys, you cannot qualify for all surveys, but again this is how survey industry works, nothing different.
Then, you will be presented with a so-called "screener" -- a basic questionnaire to determine your education level, marital status, household income, race and ethnicity, number of household members, the type of company you work in, as well as your role within it. Your answers will provide basic information about you, so they could tailor their surveys to your particular user profile.
Just for completing my profile and finishing up the screener, I earned 5 points. It took me about 10 minutes to do it. The moment you submit your information, you will be able to start taking surveys. Each is preceded by a short pre-qualifying questionnaire that is supposed to determine if you're the right match.
However, even if it lets you proceed to the survey itself, it's still no guarantee that you won't get kicked out after 10 or 15 minutes because the algorithm deems you non-eligible. It's really frustrating, but it happens with other paid survey sites too. At least there is some kind of compensation here -- every time you get disqualified, your info will automatically be submitted for a $10,000 sweepstakes held once every four months.
You will get emails multiple times a day, but you can also find surveys on the simple and intuitive dashboard. You won't know in advance how much points a survey is worth, but at least they are accurate in estimating its duration.
This is one of the things I like about Opinion Post, their rewards that are specific and something that users are always looking for.
To begin with, you can always redeem your points to earn cash. You can also use PayPal redemption method to get your money into your account. It is safe, secure and mostly quicker than getting a check.
The one thing that sets apart Opinion Outpost from many other survey websites is the lowest cash limit in the industry to redeem your cash which is just $10 equivalent to 100 points.
Gift Cards. Opinion Outpost users also have the option to redeem their points to get Amazon.com and iTunes gift cards, the ones that are most popular among online users.
Again, all you need is 50 points equal to $5 to request Amazon e-gift code or iTunes gift cards. You can also donate your points to American Red Cross as Opinion Outpost works in partnership with American Red Cross.
Earn More. Opinion Outpost also offers $10,000 every quarter to a lucky winner. It allows users to enter their name into the quarterly prize draw every time they complete a survey. So more the surveys you complete, the better is your chance to earn $10,000.
The amount of money you make depends on how many surveys you complete. Opinion Outpost surveys can earn you anywhere between $0.50 and $5 for each one you complete. You receive $0.10 for every point you earn.
For example, if you finish a 5 point survey, you'll receive $0.50. The amount of points you earn for each survey depends on the length.
Surveys can take 10-30 minutes to complete. If you're able to do five surveys in an hour that earn 5 points, that is $2.50 per hour. That amount can be higher or lower depending on the time you take and the points you earn.
One thing you'll want to know before you start using Opinion Outpost is that many times after filling out a questionnaire for the survey, you won't qualify to take it. Which means you invest the time and don't earn points.
You'll want to factor that in when you are allotting your time to take surveys.
Another way to make money with Opinion Outpost is with their sweepstakes. The sweepstake is a quarterly prize drawing for $10,000. You can use one point to enter for a chance to win. It may be better to use your points towards cash or gift card payouts than to use them on opportunities to win.
Is It Legit or Scam?
Opinion Outpost is a legit online source to earn some extra cash by filling out surveys, there is no doubt about it, so YES. It is working in the industry for more than a decade now with a loyal user base and hundreds of success stories spread all over the internet.
Opinion Outpost is Legit
But here is a catch and something I find very alarming, almost all the recent user feedback mentioned one thing, "it was once the best survey website on the internet but not anymore". For most users, it is going down in quality after it was bought by Survey Spot, another survey website. The trend is also highlighted by their recent traffic rankings. Their traffic has dropped over the last year as it becomes evident that not many new users are joining them. Simply no growth in traffic.
In the end, we learn one thing in this Opinion Outpost review, the company is legit, pays money but it is not as great anymore as it was a few years ago. There are few complaints and issues and customers are getting frustrated, but it is still counted among the top survey websites, so you can try it, they are still better than many other survey websites when it comes to overall user feedback.
Pros and Cons
It is rewarding as users can select surveys based on the points they offer in return which ranges from 5 to 50 points.
1 Point = 0.10 cents
10 points = $1.0
100 points = $10
Here is the best thing that I like the most about Opinion Outpost. If you have completed a survey that offers 50 points, you can immediately redeem it for the Amazon and iTune gift cards or if you have completed just two of 50 points each, you can redeem cash using PayPal. Now this is quick, I don't think you can redeem your points anywhere else by completing just 1 or 2 surveys, or are there? If you know any of such website, please let us know in the comment section. I would love to know any other website that does the same.
Even though you get regular emails with a list of surveys, but you are not dependent on only emails to do surveys. You can access your account on the website anytime and can choose from the available listed surveys. This makes it possible for users to do surveys without any break and earn more.
Options to earn through multiple options which include online surveys, mobile surveys and referring a friend.
It is one of the fastest survey websites to in terms of rewards delivery. Not only you need only $10 in your account to redeem which is the lowest and much less than the industry norm of $50, it is also quick to process the rewards once requested. In most cases, the rewards are transferred instantly or you have to wait for only a few hours in some rare cases (The industry standard is 4 to 6 weeks).
Other options if you are bored like games and sweepstakes.
Refer a Friend to earn $1.00 when the referred friend or family do at least one survey.
The primary mean of sending surveys to users is email, so be prepared to get emails after every couple of hours. This may feel like spam for those who like to do surveys through website dashboard once or twice a day.
Even though there are multiple rewards options, but if compared to few other survey websites you may find the rewards options limited.
The website layout is not modern. Well, I don't know if anyone from the upper management visits Opinion Outpost website, but seriously, you can do a better job with a free template. They certainly need a better website with a better color scheme. Their current website looks very ordinary and not something we can call a great first impression. Improve it please -- Hello! Anyone from Opinion Outpost reading this?
Completing online surveys won't make you a ton of money, but it could be just the extra cash you need. Or they could be a way for you to get started with side hustles. Online surveys are an easy and straightforward way to make some money on the side. Sign up with Opinion Outpost here.
